Srinagar: Three terrorists of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in an encounter with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces in Awantipora. The slain terrorists include Mukhtar Ahmed Bhat and Saqlain Mushtaq of Pulwama. The third terrorist Mushfiq was a resident of Pakistan.
The slain terrorist Bhat has been involved in acts of intimidation of Kashmiri Pandits, migrant laborers and political activists in Pulwama, thereby creating fear in the community. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the three terrorists were planning a major terror attack around the national highway. An AK-74 rifle has been recovered from the terrorists.
Mukhtar Ahmed Bhat was active around Pulwama
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Mukhtar Ahmed Bhat was a staunch commander of The Resistance Front, an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Bhat, a resident of Pulwama, had gone missing on April 18 while leaving the house on the pretext of meeting his aunt. Later, investigation found that he joined TRF and was active around Pulwama.
Before becoming the commander, Bhat was an overground worker of TRF for many years. He was also involved in radicalizing the youth to take up arms against the country and used to carry out activities injurious to the security of the nation.
Bhat played a role in raising Lashkar-e-Taiba-TRF in Kakapora belt of Pulwama. Mukhtar Bhat was involved in the murder of Jammu and Kashmir policeman Riyaz Ahmed Thokar at his residence in Gadoora, Pulwama on May 13 this year. He was also involved in the attack on two migrant laborers at Ugargund in Pulwama town, in which one was seriously injured.
